Serving the rural areas

Bozsód-Rét Non-profit Ltd.

Bozsód-Rét Non-profit Ltd. was established in 2012 with the aim to play an active role in regional rural development. Its main mission is to rescue rural values as well as to preserve population levels in rural areas. Settlements in the Eastern-Hungarian region are fundamentally rural in nature, while border settlements are considered to be disadvantaged, peripheral areas. Accession to the European Union opened new perspectives for improving agricultural competitiveness, managing sustainable natural resources and implementing a sustainable climate policy along with funds for the territorially balanced development of rural areas.

Rural development is intertwined with agriculture and in Europe during the mid-90’s it became obvious that agricultural production in itself will not be able produce the driving force of development in rural areas. What is rural development? Its main essence is the utilization of local resources to benefit local and the broader society even the entire nation. What can these local resources be? These include such characteristics and features that have not been recognised so far; whether these are natural conditions, landscape, nature reserves and indigenous breeds etc. or such social characteristics, tradition and safeguarding cultural values. The globalised world transmits cosmopolitan culture to all corners of the world and rural development resists this tendency to the extent that all rural areas have such unique characteristics, which make it colourful and diverse, providing local resource and a source of income for certain social strata of the local community in welfare societies. Bozsód-Rét Non-profit Ltd. builds upon these principles to „serve the rural areas”.

In order to achieve rural development objectives, we regularly take advantage of project calls offered by the European Union. We have maintained a good relationship with the University of Debrecen, which is a prominent institution of Hungarian higher education – in the spirit of the Magna Charta of European universities –, contributes to academic sciences and Hungarian social development with the highest standard of versatile, interdisciplinary education.
